Surrey League – Winter 2016/17 Update

First team – Division 4R

After five matches, the league table demonstrates the significant disruption that we have suffered within the first team this season given a number of injuries, illnesses and work commitments. After a slow start against the stronger teams in the division, we are now starting to gather some momentum and our casualties will soon return. We have one of the stronger squads in the league and hence should be able to close the gap to the teams above us over the course of the next few months.

Well played to the second and third team players who turned out for the first team last night against a strong Reigate 2 side. We managed to win 3-2 thanks to great wins from James, Harry and Chris; plus Dan grabbed another point and Freddie went so clash to winning the first set against a strong opponent. A great 14-6 victory given the circumstances and the future holds lots of hope…!

Second team – Division 6R

After last year’s promotion, our second team have gone from strength-to-strength and have won all of their first four games this season. We should be top of the league after next week despite playing two matches less than anybody else. Things are looking very positive for a promotion and possible division 6 title given our strong squad and strength in depth.

Another great victory this week against Reigate 3 thanks to 3-0 victories for Harry and Leon, plus a 3-2 victory for a very ill Dan. Mike P also picked up two points in a narrow defeat finishing at 11am and Charlie showed his superb fitness levels to sneak the third set in a 3-1 defeat. Overall, another great victory to Spencer Squash Club with the final points tallying 16-9.

Third team – Division 9

The third team are having a storming season and our strong squad are currently a few divisions lower than required however this will soon change! After five matches, we have recorded five huge victories and we currently sit top of the table with a 19-point gap to second place.

We secured a vital victory this week against a strong Christophers side who are our main title challengers. If we both continue to beat the other sides then there will soon be an even large gap between us and third-place which will continue to boost our promotion prospects. Great victories this week for Anthony, Tim, Mike and Freddie; despite a rare blip from Neil. Well played!
