Junior Programme

Overview

Spencer Club recognises that the juniors are the future of our sport and we have an established Junior Programme in place.  Nothing makes us prouder than to work with youngsters who eventually progress through to our Surrey League teams.=

We are very fortunate to benefit from two coaches who are both very committed to providing the opportunity for youngsters to learn and enjoy squash from across all age groups.  Our Head Coach,.  Roshan has recently been shortlisted for the UK Squash Club Coach of the Year Award and has coached at Spencer Club for a number of years.

Junior squash sessions

Our Head Coach, Roshan Mawar, runs our Tuesday afternoon junior coaching sessions from 4pm until 7pm.  In addition, George Greene supports our junior squash programme and organises weekly junior squash sessions on Saturdaymornings from 10.45am to 12.15pm.  The lessons are designed to help players across all junior age groups and all levels of playing ability.  They include everything from an introduction to the game, through to helping you to master the correct techniques in order to move onto the next level.

Junior squash competitions

In addition to the Spencer Club internal junior competitions that we organise, a number of juniors attending our sessions have gone on to represent Wandsworth and Surrey County in national junior competitions.  Please come along to our junior squash sessions and ask Roshan for more details so that you can get involved.

Spencer Club internal leagues – a chance to beat the adults!

As you build up your confidence and develop your game, you will want to start playing regular semi-competitive matches against both juniors and adults in order to experience valuable playing time and to develop your game strategy.  Our Spencer Club monthly internal leagues span across all levels and will match you up against other players of similar ability.  Each month, you will get the chance to compete against a handful of other players of similar standard and you will be able to progress through the divisions by earning promotions as your game continues to improve.  This offers you an ideal chance to start beating the adults and even to see how long it takes you to overtake your parents within our internal league divisions…!

Join in our adult sessions

Once you have learnt the basics, why not get involved in our regular group coaching sessions to help move you up the ladder.  Our philosophy is to focus on all four aspects of the game to cover technical, tactical, physical and mental.  Most of our participants have learnt to focus on areas of their game that they didn’t previously realise even existed and have significantly improved their performance as a result.  See our Adult Programme for further details!

Informal matches

If you are unable to commit to playing squash on a regular basis, then you may prefer to either contact other members to organise the occasional ad hoc match, or alternatively to attend our weekly Clubnights on a Tuesday evening from7pm onwards at a cost of only £5.  Our Clubnights are run by Roshan Mawar, our head coach, and offer players a combination of group coaching and match practice.  These are perfect for juniors with busy or unpredictable schedules as there is no need to register or commit in advance – simply turn up whenever it suits you to!
