Surrey League – Spencer 1 vs Surbiton 3 – Match Report
Wanted – Home for house trained South Africans
I’ll keep this one short and sweet. Perhaps we should have realised from the biblical weather on Thursday that Friday was going to be a pretty shitty day. And so it was. The real untold ramifications of Brexit is that the South African half of the first team squad are now living above court 1 to avoid deportation. Leon’s Oyster card has already started rejecting him and we are uncertain if Grant will be allowed back from Italy. Jannus is constructing a home made still to ensure he has adequate supply of gin for his training regime. If anybody knows of a good home then please call into the club house.
On court events were nearly as surprising we played Surbiton 3rd team in a top of the table clash. Leon played a blinder at 4th string to record a superb 3-0 victory. Wellsy continued his strong vein of form and did the same at number 3. I scraped a 3-0 despite arguing with Dan’s referring for most of the match (why do I always get rubbish markers?!) and Jannus played on a different level to anybody else on the night for a 3-0 win. So 15 points taken and 5 out of 5 for the season and an entertaining evening in the bar after. Huge match next week against Wimbledon whom, on paper, look dauntingly strong. But then again on paper everybody thought we would vote Remain…
